“Despacito” by Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee has taken the world by storm racking up over 1 billion views on YouTube and taking no. 1 spot on Latin music charts. But it is bound to hit all time high globally with the chart-boosting remix by Justin Bieber who has added sexy bop and energy to the reggaeton groove and subtly suave urban mood.
Bieber flies his freak flag and croons to slick verse “You are my sunrise on the darkest day /Got me feeling some kinda way/ Make me wanna savor every moment slowly” upping the ante to this largely Spanish-language sultry floor-filler.
“Despacito” means “slowly” in English draws inspirations from Latin pop fusions which ooze with sensuality not just in rhythms but as well in lyrical fixation: “Let me surpass your danger zones / Until I provoke your screams”. Co-written by Erika Ender, the song has become the first Spanish-language song on Spotify’s Global Chart for 10 consecutive weeks.
