It’s a big leap for Miley Cyrus, and gladly she lands on her feet with her latest single, “Malibu” putting her country-roots twang atop breezily flowing pop ditty done near the end of summer. Miley begins with smoky sweetness “I never would’ve believed you if three years ago you told me I’d be here writing this song” shoehorned into tranquility and definitely with reference to her reconciliation with beau Liam Hemsworth after moving to his Malibu estate.
There is nothing offensive with “Malibu”, a far-fetched departure from her “Bangerz” or “Dead Petz” days that have put Miley within the radar due to her raunchy videos and explicit lyrical fixation on just anything taboo.
Here, the graceful lady who has just won raves from her Backyard Sessions singing Dolly Parton’s “Jolene”, cranks a start-up machine and flitting between folk, pop, and rock with emotional positivity tying it together superbly. Now she’s back confidently to the beach, we expect Miley’s new album to have every bit as warm and relaxing as a day by the ocean. You’re welcome.
